Lin Wei didn’t mind and pulled him away from the area that was relatively weak and unable to withstand the big young master’s disturbances. The two of them browsed for other ingredients. They could have gone back, but Huo Qijun found it amusing to wander around the supermarket with Lin Wei, so he said he wanted to see if there was anything else he wanted to buy.
“Shall we look at snacks?” Lin Wei suggested.
“Sure.” Huo Qijun casually agreed, but in fact, he wasn’t much of a snack person.
Colorful packets of potato chips and spicy strips were displayed on the shelves. As Lin Wei passed by, he specifically reminded Huo Qijun to eat less of these crunchy snacks, making Huo Qijun, who wasn’t planning to take any, smile awkwardly and reply, “Then why did you bring me here?”
“There are things you can eat too.” Lin Wei pointed his chin towards the nuts on another shelf.
“…Fine!” Huo Qijun reluctantly grabbed two bags, not even bothering to read the packaging.
They then continued walking and soon arrived at the pet food section next to the snacks. Lin Wei automatically stopped, picking up a can printed with a silver-gradient cat, lost in thought. He was quite familiar with this packaging, having seen it in his previous world.
Because the small cat and ice cream printed on it were of the same breed, he always instinctively bought this brand before, but…
“This is not tasty!” Huo Qijun blurted out when he saw the can in Lin Wei’s hand.
Both Lin Wei and Huo Qijun froze after that statement.
“This is for cats.” Lin Wei asked in disbelief, “You wouldn’t…?”
Although this product was basically human-grade food, it was too absurd for Huo Qijun to treat it like an ordinary meat can, finishing it and then complaining about the taste.
However, it was normal that he wasn’t accustomed to the non-salty flavor.
“I didn’t!” Huo Qijun quickly denied after catching Lin Wei’s implication, but besides those two words, he had no further explanations. He couldn’t exactly say he often dreamed of turning into the cat Lin Wei raised, and that in those dreams, Lin Wei fed him this, insisting it was bad.
This was just too bizarre! How could something from a dream exist identically in reality? He had never owned a cat; his mind should be entirely blank on this!
But what he couldn’t stand the most was the sudden invasion of the nightmarish images that made his toes curl with shame; Huo Qijun turned and walked away.
“I’m hungry! Let’s go home!” He felt suffocated staying another second among the cat food.
Lin Wei returned the can to its place, momentarily confused, then shook his head, no longer overthinking it.
By the time they got home, Huo Qijun had finally adjusted his mentality after facing the awkwardness alone. Lin Wei told him to go change his clothes first, and he would call him when dinner was ready. Huo Qijun disregarded this, merely taking off his suit jacket, rolling up his shirt sleeves, and naturally said, “I’ll help you.”
“…Don’t tell me you’re just going to make things harder?” Lin Wei raised an eyebrow and joked, but he didn’t refuse his kindness.
“I just hate washing dishes; it always feels dirty,” Huo Qijun explained his previous poor performance and even flipped the blame, “Why don’t you get a dishwasher?”
Lin Wei shrugged, “I don’t usually cook. If it weren’t for you, this kitchen would still be a display!”
Huo Qijun instinctively wanted to ask why Lin Wei was such a great cook, but then he recalled Lin Wei’s previous statement and quietly chose not to pursue it.
After witnessing Lin Wei cook, his suspicions solidified further. Unlike the casual home cooking of Fu Xiaoqing, Lin Wei’s culinary skills were very professional, clearly something he had studied. As for why he didn’t use them more…
Lin Wei studied medicine but hadn’t treated anyone except him; and as for cooking, wasn’t he just making meals for him now? Fu Xiaoqing had stayed here for so long without ever tasting his food.
“Do you cook for anyone else?” Huo Qijun couldn’t help but ask.
Lin Wei thought that there were indeed many; in the world where he was a chef, numerous competition judges and the female protagonist, who was his apprentice, had tasted his food.
But he couldn’t say that out loud.
“Nobody else.” Lin Wei answered casually. In the original male second character setting, he didn’t possess the skill of cooking. He had made porridge once and breakfast once, and this was the third time, all of which Huo Qijun had eaten.
For a brief moment, Huo Qijun felt satisfied, but he quickly realized that if Lin Wei only cooked for those he liked, the next person to eat his cooking would most likely be Yu Yu…
Just thinking about it made him feel uneasy.
However, Lin Wei’s culinary skills were exceptionally advanced, and soon, a delicious aroma wafted from the pot, sweeping away Huo Qijun’s labyrinth of thoughts.
Overall, Huo Qijun enjoyed this meal quite a bit. At least at this moment, he was the one being treated specially by Lin Wei.
Huo Qijun’s good mood lasted throughout the night, even when he dreamt again of turning into a cat, being cuddled by Lin Wei, it didn’t have too much of an impact, until not long after arriving at work, the entire floor became lively due to a bunch of roses.
The roses were sent to Assistant Yu, and the sender remained anonymous. Upon receiving them, Yu Yu told his curious colleagues uniformly that he didn’t know who had sent them.
He only told those who needed to know the truth. Although Lin Wei hadn’t specifically directed him, he understood that such matters should be kept intentionally low-key for it to seem more natural.
Initially, Huo Qijun hadn’t thought the flowers were from Lin Wei. In his mind, Lin Wei didn’t seem like the type who would use such flowery methods to pursue someone.
So at first, he was somewhat amused, hoping Yu Yu would quickly be taken away, to spare him from annoyance.
But this feeling of schadenfreude didn’t last long. When he casually asked who sent the flowers, Yu Yu told him without hesitation…
It was Lin Wei.
Huo Qijun maintained an expressionless face at the mention but tightened his grip, almost breaking his pen.
“Is that so?” he replied coldly.
Yu Yu, who had managed to become Assistant Huo at such a young age, even if some of his methods weren’t entirely honorable, undoubtedly had exceptional ability in reading people.
